Suffice it to say I was pretty surprised when an email from this forum popped up in my inbox. It's been a long time! Looking back at some of the threads on here, I feel old, even.

So, before I launch into a tirade about the past - Hello again, everyone! I'm really curious to see who all is back and how everyone is doing. With that in mind, I thought maybe everyone could share a little bit about where they're at and how things are going.

As for myself, I'm doing pretty well. In a couple weeks I'll be starting school again (4th year of college at Colorado School of Mines), and I'm looking forward to another semester. I've spent this summer mostly working at a company that develops products for critical process monitoring (fancy words for thermometers with alarms attached, among other things) as a software development intern. It's been a really good job, certainly way better than anything I've had in the past. Aside from that, I've also spent this summer being very sick for a few weeks - I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder back in February and have been gradually adjusting different medications to try and stay on top of it. It can be difficult to deal with, at times, but my outlook on life has improved so much over the past couple years that it doesn't really get me down.

Anyway, I didn't come here just to talk about myself. Please, if you have any news about how you've been, no matter if you think it's boring, feel free to share. I really missed this forum.

(Dude CSOM is a legit school. It looks so cool! Glad your doing well Glyph, keep it up old friend) I was just as surprised as well to get an email! I still remember the first day I found mhfr2.com. I was just a weird kid who was geeking on MH and now I'm In med school. It's insane!

Needed less to say I'm going to start my 3rd year in med school (Baylor College Of Medicine) trying to become a surgeon. I would care to be a neurosurgeon because the brain it's the coolest imo. Class has been going well and next month I start an internship with actual neuro and cardio surgeons as part of my clinicals. I don't start my residency or fellowship for another year or two so yeah I'm still kinda new. As of now though I'm working as a surgical tech just to get use to the whole flow of the OR and man it's freaking insanity! But yeah, other than schooling I grew a bit, 6'2 now and gained a beard but the Gf made me shave it a aniversary present lol As long as she's happy hey. Oh yeah I have a gf now, she's studying to be a just a general MD so yeah she's the illest. First Indian girl I've ever dated and loving it.

As far as this summer though we just came back from freaking Japan! Three weeks there! Her, I and some other friends booked a house. That place right man *whistles sexy* It was the coolest. Everything is so different, lively, and clean. I really really loved it. So yeah been traveling a lot and learning a lot. I've come a long way but I still have a longer way to go. Funny how much things grow and change in the years. So yeah that's my little story of life rn. Haven't stopped playing MH I'm actually in quite often so yeah hmu on skype if anyone wants to play. Y'all stay safe, sexy and enjoy the rest of yalls evening. -T

It's amazing how long this community has persisted, even in the smallest ways. I always love to see where time takes people, and this has been no exception. It may not be the case for many of the old guard, but I remember you two, and many others that joined the site back when I did were all right around my age; we were just barely passing for awkward high school students. Seven years is a long time.

For myself, I packed up my life and moved 1000 miles away at 18. I reside in West Palm Beach, Florida where I've been going to school and working a bunch of part time jobs to get by. I'm a semester into a Masters of Divinity program and should be on track to complete the degree in another year and a half or so. I may or may not have to go on and get a PhD, as I see myself teaching Greek and some theological studies courses at the university level some day. I've discovered teaching to be a bit of a passion of mine in the past year alone. It has really helped me stay motivated about the coursework I've been so bogged down by.

As of yesterday I just moved off campus for good and am in limbo between that and having my first legit apartment. Here's hoping the craziness will settle down soon and I can transition into my fall routine without a hitch.

I have played a fair share of MH3U and MH4U, however I'll need to get my hands on a copy of Generations. I'm biding my time and watching my finances at the moment. But I'll be happy to join the hunting squad at some point. I look forward to hearing about everyone else that's lurking around. I've only really heard anything about Andras over the past few years

I haven't been so great since our last meet-up. Diagnosed with seizures three or so years ago, completely unresponsive to any medication. The only medications that do work make me simply loopy, and my sleep schedule has gotten erratic as well. As it affects my speech, I have been put on leave. The surgeries to help with this are in October, and I've been off of work since February. At the end of August, I lose my job.

On top of all of that, each and every single medication I'm on (roughly 5 different medications) are depressants, and I can't drink alcohol because now it poisons me. Two of them I could buy a used car with per month, which I can only afford because my father's insurance helps. In February '17, I lose that.

The fun doesn't stop, either, as my girlfriend lost her job and we can't afford to meet up. I wanted to meet up for Otakon, but that's just not going to happen now.

No achievements to speak of, Christ, I still live with my parents because I can't support myself. I want to go back to school, but with no income, two surgeries, and the recovery time? I can't do it. At all.

Sorry to be a Debbie Downer, but that's just how it's been for me. I'm glad all of y'all have made something or are going to make something of yourselves.

It is not too late for you, man.  We strive because there is life in our bones yet.  You have skills that you can use, you just have to stay motivated.  Write a book, make something, keep determined.  I know I am not alone here when I say I wish you all the best over the coming weeks.  I hope the community here can build back up to something that we all can gain a little encouragement from week by week.

I'm sorry to hear things have been so unfortunate for you... I hope something happens that improves your situation soon. If nothing else, you at least have friends and comrades here, and I'm sure that we'll do all that we are able to help. It's not much, but you can always vent or complain about anything if you need to.

Catching Up/Reunions Empty Re: Catching Up/Reunions

Post by Andras Sun Aug 21, 2016 1:02 pm

Finally back from vacation. It has been a definitely needed one, as there has been plenty that has came crashing down around me as of late. With MHGen's release I wanted to get things fired back up around here. Regrettably I haven't been able to attend much over the last few months.

June, by far has been one of the most catastrophic months I have dealt with since the loss of a good friend back in 2012. The first three weeks of the month, we lost 3 different people in our family, all of which were unexpected. My first cousin, with me being the oldest died of what we believe to be a drug overdose, one that caused an aneurysm and took her out fast. She was 26, and a very close relative and friend of mine. She felt more like a sister to me than a cousin. It devastated our family as a whole, and the following week, my great  uncle died of massive organ failure, plausibly because of drug abuse. He and my mother were very close so it has taken a huge toll on her as well. He was a funny guy, which affected us all as well. His humor was something you looked forward to being subject to. Finally, another great uncle of mine lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a building, luckily empty in one of our hometowns and it killed him instantly. I didn't know him very well, but ffs, 3 consecutive Wednesdays we buried family members, leaving very little to no time to grieve for those lost. I'd be lying if I said I didn't call out to God, cursing him and just being generally downtrodden. It took a toll on my faith, but with support from friends and family, I have managed to get back to some semblance of normal. It hasn't been a fun last few months up until heading out to Florida and North Carolina for vacation. That has recharged my state of mind and being... and drained by bank account, hahaha.

It means so much to me that so many of you have came back to the site, I miss the days of our old forums at MonsterHunterFreedom2.com and GatheringOfHunters.com which have long since faded from binary history. Strangely enough, Minegarde.com also disappeared in this absence, so maybe we stand a chance to recover some more folk as well.

I'm so sorry for your losses. I can't even fathom how that feels, but at least your vacation helped you out.

Minegarde disappeared roughly a year ago, maybe a little longer. No reason why. One moment I was squishing an adbot, next moment, 404. The 'survivors' are on one Skype channel. Roughly 30, though only 7-8 of them ever post. Hell, only half of them are even online. Most have migrated to Reddit.

I'm fashionably late, but better late than never.

To those getting edumacated and jobs, glad to hear it, good that you're enjoying it. (By the end I couldn't wait to get out.)

@Coyote: You remind me of my own good fortune. In so many words, sorry to hear about your situation, I can't imagine what it must be like.
You said you lose your job by the end of August. Did that come to be?
You might have already considered this, but would a shorter term education be feasible? Like a 2 year associate's rather than a 4 year bachelor's. (Could always go for more later.) I hear community colleges are supposed to be cheaper? My two cents.
At least your parents are supportive, I think. And if they go too, at least you'll get some inheritance. :-P #darkhumor

So I graduated college back in April, engineering. Not long after I got a full time job at the place I had coop'd before.
Not long after that I moved out into an apartment. It's just me, small, but it suits a minimalist like me, not far from work. (I have a lofted/raised double-size bed, not much head clearance, it's funny.)
I wouldn't consider myself a real adult yet, still got some ties back to my parents, but I'm getting there.
Been busy, not as much free time (part of why I was late here).

Last summer, my extended family demolished our old rundown beach house and started building a new one. While there are certain things we paid to have done (foundation, insulation, etc.) it's mostly been us building it ourselves, granted I'm just unskilled slave labor.
It's nearing actual completion now, we got our occupancy legal thing, just furniture and finishing touches mostly. Came out really nice.

I've started to lose track of the Monster Hunter games, but:
I boot legged MHP3 way back when (don't think it was ever released in America), gave it a decent play through but didn't get as much out of it.
Got MH4U, gave it a pretty thorough play through, but did kind of peter out at the end.
Played the Generations demo pretty thoroughly, then my cousin (remember him?) forced me to buy the real thing. Haven't really touched it though, got the Fire Emblem Fates games in queue first (and Overwatch and Dark Souls).

I was bummed a bit when Minegarde went down, lost all the RPG's.
To fill the hole in my life, I found another RPG site.  Kind of crazy what it's like when the site is based around playing RPG's (more people, more functionality). I've got my own game going, which has been taking up a lot of me free time (another reason why I was late).
I'll have to meander over to what's going on here now.

But in summary, things are going well.

Hey everyone. It's great to see you all again! It's been too long. I'm sorry I've been gone for so long. It was a shock to see that Minegarde was gone. Not a lot has happened with me. It's pretty much been same old, same old. I have kept up with MonHun, though. I'm at 800+ hours on 4U, 300+ with Gen. So, pretty much, still a gamer with too much time on his hands I have made some progress on my writing, though, and I even have another in the works.

@Bizzarre - I'm sorry things have been so rough for you. I certainly hope things start turning around for you soon.

@Andras - I know it's half a year too late, but I'm sorry for your losses. I can't even imagine what that was like.

@DB - It's good to hear things are working out for you. Also, you mentioned you found another RPG site? What's it called? I might drop by and check it out.

It's definitly great to see everyone again, and hopefully this site will start to see some new life breathed back into it. I'll be sure to help however I can.

It's rpol.net (roleplay online).
The layout and stuff can take a little bit of figuring out at first.
My name on there is the same as on here.
