Burning Sands Sign Up
I apologize for lying, as this thread is not that important. I have created it mainly so that I can see how many people would be interested in a new RP. (Unless it would interfere with Andras' which is the only ongoing RP at this time.) If you think that you might be interested, reply here. More details to follow.

Re: Burning Sands Sign Up
I was wondering if anyone would come up with anything to replace D.W.E.
I don't think this would interfere with Andras' RPG. D.W.E. certainly didn't.
But yeah, I'd be interested.

Re: Burning Sands Sign Up
Well, tommorow is just my AD final, and Biology (Pfft). So, considering the lack of studying/not giving a flying... fladoodle, I have decided that I can afford to devote some time to thinking about this RP. I have no idea what exactly anyone feels like doing, theme wise, etc... -however, we are going to be using a system, much more complex than the likes of which I have used (once) before! So, just post whatever comes to mind, and we'll go from there, because I seriously got nuthin'.

So is this new system a seecret or can you tell us? In the ways of ideas I'm not sure. Maybe knowing the system you will use for determining the outcome of battles will give us a better idea of what kind of story/setting we would like.

Re: Burning Sands Sign Up
Knowing a little bit about the system might help us build this RPG, so we know some potential limitations as to what it can do.
For a theme, I'm not sure if you meant like Monster Hunter or another game or genre, or if you meant like action, mystery or drama.
Anyway, I'll vote for Monster Hunter, even though a lot of our RPG's have been Monster Hunter.
I propose something that isn't straight forward.
D.W.E., for example, was really straightforward.
Andras' too, I think is pretty straight forward, despite some mystery (not to put down on it or anything).
Also, something that lends itself to a fair amount of role playing. I feel like the two aforementioned RPG's don't quite encourage that as much.
I hope that's some kind of guideline for you.
Perhaps a way to make this would be: We the players make our characters, going in whatever direction we want, like a standard hunter, assassin, guild knight, medic or something else.
You then try to come up with something that would involve (most of) the characters. You might set some bounds for the character creation, if that makes things easier for you.
Just an idea.
On a side note, for your brain storming, I'd rather you keep some of it to yourself. Namely to keep mysteries or spoilers secret.
I remember a while back you wanted to make an RPG, and essentially told us what would be a big secret.
Speaking of that RPG, you had a plot (on the old site) where there was basically going to be hunter genocide.
I figured I should bring that up, if it's of any use.
So yeah, hope that helps.

Re: Burning Sands Sign Up
That old idea was mine? Huh. I've got a few ideas now, (big thanks to DB) and I'll narrow them down once I see some characters. EDIT: Not going to be doing Monster Hunter. Going to take place in the desert (AGAIN). Post a bio with some basic character background, a few valuables, a small weapon (Handgun, knife, etc...).

Re: Burning Sands Sign Up
It would help if we knew the technology level of what we'll be playing in. Like old western, modern, near future, or distant future.
Maybe a little hint as to what we'll be doing, too, to give us some direction with our character.

The technology is variable, depending on where you are, and how much money you have. In your area, the average would be fairly modern.

Re: Burning Sands Sign Up
Name: Isaac Sundin
Race/Gender: White Male
Age: Mid twenties
Basic Physical Description: Average height and build (if not a little below on the latter). Fairly skinny. Short brown hair, generally shaved face.
Occupation: Engineer (Mechanical)
Items: A few canteens (water). Light back pack. Desert Clothes.
Weapon: Wooden staff (almost his height, reasonably heavy and sturdy)
Back story: Ordinary engineer. Not married (makes travel work easier). Got called to the desert (location) to do some work.
How's that?
I know the staff is kind of "large" but I figure its on par with stuff like handguns or knives. If you want me to change it though, that's fine.
It's meant for stuff like snakes and trapdoor spiders. And just something he might have picked up at a tourist stand.

Re: Burning Sands Sign Up
I would like to try a RPG here
Name: Kino (last name unknown)
Race: Caucasian/other
Gender: Female
Age: 20
Occupation: Treasure Hunting Thief
Clothing: Wears a cloak to keep cool. Underneath she walks barefoot but is wrapped in light cloth so she doesn't burn on her feet. She wears baggy clothing, and has many pockets and pouches. She wears a tanktop (Think of it like a bit of Laura Croft)
Appearance: Light blue short hair. Left eye is green, right is blue with a scar. Light skinned. Short and slim. about 4'11"
Items: Pouches, ropes, grappling hooks, cloths, gloves, water canteen, smoke bomb, lighter
Weapon(s): Throwing knives, hand knife, brass knuckles.
Bio: Kino is a treasure hunter looking for things to collect, she is very wealthy and lives alone. "Trust no one" is what she goes by. She was a abandoned child when she was young, so she stole to live. She hated everyone. Reason why she's in the desert? To find rare treasures. She'll keep stealing, finding the most valuable treasure of all.

Good. I'll wait a little while longer for Andras, but I figure he'll be able to join while the RP is still fairly new. I'll put up the actual thread tonight or tommorow.

Re: Burning Sands Sign Up
I lied. Instead of putting up the thread, I guess I'd better go over some of the RP mechanics. This is going to be a lot more complicated than other RP's that I have done in the past. Because I don't have the system fully developed or tested, the rules will be flexible, but not to the point of breaking. Some stuff that I'm including is: More detailed combat mechanics( such as hit placement, weapons degradation and failure), more realism( food, water, and equipment will be taken into account when traveling), and more depth(random encounters, etc...). Allow me to demonstrate a possible scenario below (This may be more or less similar to the actual RP):

Re: Burning Sands Sign Up
Nixon, Truman, and Ford are all walking through a section of the desert. We'll assume that they have enough food and water with them to last the 4 day journey to civilization. (This is just to show random encounters)
Glyph: (Day 1) The road slowly fades away as you leave town, hot sand covering up any trace.
Now each person will make an awareness check in case of random encounter. (1-20)
Nixon: 17
Truman: 13
Ford: 4
Now I will see whether they run into anything, and if they notice anything. For this we need a random encounter table for this area:
1-20: Sand
21-60: Human encounter (See sub-table)
61-80: Wreckage or ruins (See sub-table)
81-100: Non-human encounter (See sub-table)
Let's say that my random # generator brings up a 5.
Glyph: The day is fairly uneventful, and the sun sets over the horizon. The temperatures drop to below freezing, and the night air is still.
(Day 2) After a long, cold night, the sun rises, casting long shadows over the land. Not even 5 minutes have passed and the air has grown warm again. You continue onward, occasionally stopping to make sure that you aren't lost.
Nixon: 20
Truman: 7
Ford: 9
My # generator brings up a 63. This means we will need another table:
1-20 Deserted housing, small chance of loot. (See sub-table)
21-80 Ruined buildings, very small chance of loot. (See sub-table)
81-100 Other wreckage (See sub-table)
Another "roll of the dice" brings up a 17.
Glyph: Reaching the top of a small sand dune, you see what appears to be a group of deserted houses.
(After some talking, the group enters.)
ANOTHER TABLE (NOTE: most of these tables will be posted inside a spoiler when the group enters an area. Also, random encounters only occur outside of a town or city.)
1-90 Nothing of value
91-95 Cash (3x#)
96-100 Weapon (If I have to make another fucking table, someone will die.)
Generator brings up a 93
Searching the houses, you discover that they have been stripped of most of their valuables, but underneath a matress there is a wad of (3x25) cash.
After this the group continues the rest of their journey, without any other encounters. This post alone took a long time to write out, but I hope you get the idea. Any questions?

I'm not sure I entirely get it, but I imagine once we use it a little we'll understand it better.
Do you do all of the rolling?
I suppose my question would be, when do we start?
I'm doubtful that Andras will be able to join us. He kind of said so himself.

Ya this is definately more complicated than the last RPGs. I'm not sure I get it either but we'll learn as we go i suppose. So is this going to be kinda like D&D with strength, armor values, agility etc? Cause that would be really complicated. Not that I'm not all for it.
