Re: Holgarde - Day One: Cleansing
Seeing that the Rathalos showed some weakness in its left leg, Cyra picks herself up wincing slightly at the pain radiating from her stomach. She pushes the pain aside and gets to her feet. She sheathes her dual swords and once again taking off at a run snags her spear from where she dropped it before.
She keeps running towards the left leg keeping watch on the tail, when she reaches the left leg using a two handed thrust she stabs her spear into the larger of the two wounds twisting her spear and pushing with all her might to get optimum penetration.
If the tail comes her way she will leave the spear in the leg and run for all she is worth under it and to the right until she is clear, diving and rolling as needed.

ooc: I have to cripple it's wing. Would a bucnh of arrows in the webbing work too?
Edo started rapidly firing arrows into the Rathalos' left wing.
ooc: I'd say about 5 or so arrows. Is that too many?

ooc: So no chance of climbing it? It seems my dreams of riding this thing into the sunset are getting more and more unlikely.
Knowing that it would do him no good just to cling there, Totoro jumped down and sprinted over to Chizoray. "Any chance you could toss me up there, nya?" He asked while making the most adorable face he could possibly do.

"It flies like the wind on a cool winter morning!" Chirozay scooped up his comrade and made ready to throw him, moving behind the monster yet again. "It procures a sound when the time is nigh!"

@Blaster: How many arrows you get in per turn will depend on how much everyone is doing that turn. Seeing as you're just shooting them without much aim (at a rather close and large target), five is possible.
In regards for crippling the wing, my concern with arrows is that they'll punch a hole, but that's about it.
A lot of your ammo has than same issue (pellet would have trouble penetrating, though explosives are nice).
As a suggestion, I would say try to group your shots a bit. Holes and rips could connect with one another, including when he flies.
This whole "project" will be tough though, because of your lack of power as a Felyne gunner. (I'm aware you've got the sword. *cough*)
Totoro could help though, and you're expecting at least some gunners from inside the buildings.
-
As Totoro kicked off and bounded away from the Rathalos, Edo put another arrow into the Rathalos' left wing.
Because the opposing creatures were proving to be a challenge, the Azure Rathalos started to exercise more caution.
He took some steps backwards and to the side (southeast), getting away from all of the monster hunters and putting them all into his view. At the same time, he got his rear to something of a wall; local buildings.
As the Rathalos turned to face everyone, Cyra and Chizoray stopped to reevaluate. A bit of a limb was noticeable in its left leg.
As he was knocking and pulling back on his next arrow, Edo adjusted his position to be as close as possible for easier aiming. As he strafed to the side, he let the arrow fly. It hit at a nice angle, making more than just a perpendicular hole.
"CLUST!!!" Someone hollered from behind the main group, sounding like it was from the hunter's lodging. Edo could determine that it was from the same window the Rathalos shot into earlier.
As announced, a high power bowgun shrieked from behind and a capsule like bullet flew overhead. This capsule struck the Rathalos' left wing webbing and split open, letting a group of pellets bounce and roll out.
Not more than two seconds later each of these pellets exploded, making an even louder bang and a enough smoke to temporarily conceal the damage done.
The Rathalos let out a cry of pain and stumbled to the side, and continued to cry as the pain lingered on.
As the smoke cleared, numerous holes could be seen about the wing. The Rathalos could still probably fly, but would definitely be hindered by pain and mechanics. It wouldn't be hard to make the damage much worse either.
Inhaling deeply, the Rathalos looked at the group of hunters again and let out another loud roar, making some of them cringe from literal pain in their ears.
Flames poured profusely out of his mouth, a sign of deep hatred and what may have been to come.

@DB: ooh really? tbh, I didn't know the block and counter move was in-game. Never played Tri.
~~~
Three Wells glanced to his right and saw Totoro in the hands of Chirozay.
"Kuhn, do you still have those flash bombs of yours? Now could be a good time to use them!" He then raised his voice. "Monster hunters, let's moooooove!!!!!"
He charged at the rathalos again.
If the rathalos charges, he will not block and continue charging. If the rathalos fires a fireball at him, he would block and counter if possible. If the rathalos jumps/flies over him, he would end the charge by thrusting the lance upwards at the belly. If the rathalos turns, block.
Edo set his bow aside, got his gun, loaded in three crags, then fired each of them group together at the left wing.
Upon hearing the hunters call to Moooooove!!!!!,
Cyra takes off at a run towards the left leg once again. She will dive and dodge as needed to avoid the tail or any fire.
Upon reaching the leg, using her two handed thrust she will stab the spear into the bigger wound twisting and pushing with all her might. If the tail comes at her she will take off at a run going under and out the other side, leaving the spear in the leg and will again dive and roll as needed until she is clear.
OOC: Does this remind anyone else at all of Power Rangers? Go go Monster Hunters!
Chirozay moved himself away from the face of the Rathalos, approaching it's left side at a distance. He hoped to get away from any possibility of it's deadly hellfire, while also remaining far enough not to be threatened by it's barbed mace of a tail. Should Totoro show any desire to leave Chirozay's grasp, or to be thrown, Chirozay would take the appropriate action.
"Nearly forgot, nya!" Totoro yelled back to Wells, "Everyone cover your eyes!" He then tossed a flash bomb at the face of the 'Los and waited for Chizoray to toss him up after the flash subsided.
Even though he had closed his eyes, Chirozay still had to blink away bright stars from his vision after the flash bomb. Taking the initiative, Chirozay took a three step charge towards the Rathalos and flung Totoro into the air, at an angle that he hoped would arc the small hunter onto the large monster.
@Rekee: I would imagine if you and the Rathalos jousted, you might hurt the Rathalos, but he would win by a large margin.
As in, it would be kamikaze (maybe not death, but still), but possibly/probably not worth it.
Like the others, David charged the Rathalos with his longsword wound back to swing, flanking opposite of Cyra.
The Rathalos launched a fireball at the window, which struck its borders and exploded like a bomb on contact.
Edo watched the fireball come, but could see that it wasn't headed anywhere near him, so he continued about changing weapons and reloading.
Right after the other in rapid succession, the Rathalos unleashed another powerful bomb, aiming directly at Wells before he was within lancing range.
The defensive hunter slowed as much as he was able to minimize the net impact force, and like before was forced back a step. His arm strained with borderline pain again.
A third fireball flew right at David, nearly right in the hunter's face, giving him almost no time to react.
The hunter couldn't jerk to either side, given his forward momentum, and he didn't have enough time to try and use his sword to block.
He released his sword and fell into a roll as best he could in an attempt to get underneath the fireball. Unfortunately, the Rathalos had aimed at a downward angle, and David took the impact and explosion hard in his back.
A cry of pain could be heard over the bang of the fireball, and David's momentarily limb body continued to roll. His longsword slid across the ground next to him.
He ended up with his face to the ground, and in severe fear of his life he struggled to get back up. The flaming substance continued to burn on his cloaked back and the nearby ground.
Almost simultaneously, Totoro's flash bomb blew up in the Rathalos' line of sight, and Cyra's lance slammed into the Rathalos' left leg.
The Rathalos didn't need vision to know where Cyra was, seeing as she just rammed her lance deep into his leg. He reached for her with his jaw, and to get away Cyra immediately left her lance and retreated.
The lance's own weight levered it down, worsening the wound some, then dislodged itself and left itself directly underfoot.
Cyra didn't run between the legs of the Rathalos because going that way would have brought her closer to the head for a moment, which she was trying to avoid.
She broke off to the wyvern's side, very mindful of the tail. The fifth limb didn't swing, and Cyra got away, coincidentally nearby Chizoray and Totoro.
After aiming for a longer time than usual, in order to group with what damage was already on the wing, Edo fired his first of three crag shots.
Seeing this, Chizoray waited on throwing Totoro.
The crag bullet struck about where Edo intended; next to another rip torn by the previous clust round. It stuck then detonated, making its own respectable hole that connected with the other, more than adding their damage together.
David took that amount of force to the back as flew into it, where he's got two layers of hide armor.
So its definitely bad, but his back/spine probably aren't broken, and he can probably still fight.
ooc: I'll be away for the weekend. Bot Three Wells. He'll most likely protect David first. Otherwise, just keep on charging at the rathalos. As a distraction first, as an attack secondary. If the shield arm gets too sore, drop the lance and switch hands.
~~~
Three Wells rushed in front of David, thrusting his lance menacingly should the rathalos be too close. He wanted to help put out the flames on David, but it would leave them open to the rathalos.
"Wood. Are you alright?" he asked over his shoulder. He risked a glance behind. "No you're not. Hang in there, buddy."

Cyra saw what had happened to David and that help was needed.
Running again in a path that would get her near David but out of the path of the Rathalos, Cyra takes off full tilt.
When she makes it to the two hunters, she will do what she has to do to put out the flames on David, so that the other hunter can continue to sheild from the Rathalos.
"What can I do to help you?" she asks of David, she reaches into her pouch for potions for him. "Would it help if I poured one on your back?"

Totoro waited until he got thrown on top of the 'Los, where he would slowly crawl his way up to the neck by using his claws and grabbing between the scales.

This time, Edo felt lucky. He waited for Totoro to be thrown before aiming very carefully at the Rathalos' lower neck, where it's softer. Once his aim is perfect, he'll fire the second crag.

Re: Holgarde - Day One: Cleansing
ooc:
@Everyone:I forgot to specify how "normal" potions generally work (I actually thought of this before Star brought up the point).
Here's the explanation, which everyone should probably read.
-
The Rathalos' vision started to recover, and though it was still very blurry, it was enough to locate the persistent pink creature only meters away, where the Rathalos also thought the other wounded white creature to be.
The Rathalos took a step towards the two hunters with his mouth wide open, fire still burning within, and Wells quickly met the advance with a thrust of his lance. Seeing a very soft and vulnerable target, the Rathalos' gums, Wells aimed for inside the monster's mouth.
The tip of his lance tore into the inside of the wyvern's cheek, immediately drawing blood, but was brought to an instant halt when the Rathalos' fangs clamped down. As the monster's jaws pressed together with immense force, a loud crack was heard.
Once stopped, the lance didn't budge, firmly trapped. Wells didn't have any chance of winning a tug of war match with the wyvern, or even competing.
The Rathalos' yanked back on what he'd grabbed, pulling Wells with it until his grip was broken. In the same motion, the Rathalos tossed the damaged weapon over his shoulder, which landed close by behind him (to his back right).
As Wells had his weapon taken away, Cyra ran clockwise about the menace. Because the Rathalos was occupied, Cyra sprinted almost directly for David.
David had forced himself onto one leg and knee, and made some distance away from the Rathalos.
After Cyra used the thick cloak to smother the flames on itself, she got underneath David's arm and helped him get away.
"Leave me here." David grunted once he and Cyra were a comfortable distance away, closer to the remaining wagon than they were the Rathalos.
(Assuming Cyra complies.)
He remained standing as Cyra got out from under him, and he withdrew a potion glass, flipped out the cork, and drank the substance, discarding the glassware on the ground afterward.
Also at the same time Wells had his weapon torn away, Chizoray and Totoro cooperated to launch Totoro up onto the Rathalos.
Chizoray threw Totoro up with both of his arms and his back, and, at the same time, Totoro pounced from Chizoray's hands.
For a solid second, Totoro was airborne. He then landed on the Rathalos' left wing, which he sank his claws into to stay in place. What was good about the webbing was that it was tough enough to bear Totoro's mass, but weak enough that his claws could dig into it.
When the Rathalos leaned backwards as it threw Well's lance over its shoulder, Totoro clung on hard, and remained where he was.
The many rips and tears in the left wing webbing became more evident to Totoro when he was right next to them, along with the few arrows hanging. Each wound was bleeding consistently, and Totoro could feel mild wetness on his nails.
Edo was very lucky that the Rathalos lifted its head up and backwards, exposing the soft underside of his neck. The Felyne rushed to take aim before the Rathalos lowered its head again, taking only the time he could afford, then fired off the second crag round.
He watched with anticipation as the round sailed through the air, seeming to be headed on target.
It stuck off to the side of the neck, still touching the softer hide rather than the rigid shell. A moment after, the round detonated with a bang and threw up a small cloud of smoke, bringing a crying growl out from the Rathalos.
The angered but frightened wyvern took a step back, leering forward in Edo's general direction. He may or may not have known exactly where the Felyne was, because his eyes were just stunned with the sudden bright light from the flash bomb.
He kept his head up slightly and his mouth open, leaking flames onto the ground.

ooc:
@Blaster: Just so you know; if the Rathalos had his head down (normal position), you'd have a very tough time hitting the underside of his neck.
This is because you are above him, and you're aiming for something just under him. You don't really have the right angle.
@Sunfish: With the right amount of effort and positioning (not one handed), forcing your sword through the Rathalos' webbing would be plausible.
Using it as an anchor would be possible, unless things took a turn for the force (wings become vertical, he starts to fly).
Positions (you'll have to reference the recent map this time):
David and Cyra are kind of close to the remaining wagon.
Wells is where David was before.
Totoro is on the Rathalos' left wing.
Chizoray is by the left with (kind of south of).
@Everyone:I forgot to specify how "normal" potions generally work (I actually thought of this before Star brought up the point).
Here's the explanation, which everyone should probably read.
- Spoiler:
- To start, there are many different variations of potions, the same way there are many different brands of generic products in real life. Some are probably better than others, and/or have slight variations, but for all intents and purposes here; they're the same.
A potion is usually ingested, usually in a relatively small amount (couple or few shots worth maybe). This is because drinking more than usual is wasteful, and does not produce better results (for the most part).
After being drank, the potion will take some time to take effect. Somewhere around the time of a minute.
Potions try to stop bleeding, reduce pain, reduce weakness, prevent infection, and generally help the wound heal in the long run (besides the infection and bleeding).
Naturally, there's only so much potions can do, and drinking more does not help. They tend to just make pain and weakness bearable, not completely negate it (and this is assuming the wound is not critical).
The effects (save for possibly bleeding and infection) only last so long, somewhere around half an hour. Drinking more potion then to lengthen the time of effect would make sense.
Applying potion fluid directly to an open wound is possible, and is usually done to focus the effects, make the effects act sooner, and conserve fluid. When someone is dressed in armor, this can be harder to make happen.
Stuff like bruises or internal wounds (either of which David might have, very likely the former) require the potion to be ingested.
To emphasize, potions do not heal wounds (though they do help in the long run). They provide something like first aid, and help the hunter work through the difficulties of wounds.

Positions (you'll have to reference the recent map this time):
David and Cyra are kind of close to the remaining wagon.
Wells is where David was before.
Totoro is on the Rathalos' left wing.
Chizoray is by the left with (kind of south of).

Re: Holgarde - Day One: Cleansing
Crya looks to David, "Will you be alright?"
Knowing her lance is gone and most likely destroyed, Cyra withdraws a single dual blade. She looks down at it and thinks how ineffectual in looks. But it is all she has. Knowing she is probably crazy but knowing that something has to be done she thinks, well you only live once and she was going to make it count.
To David she held up the sword, "It is all I have now, it will have to be enough."
She brings a hand briefly up to his cheek, "Be safe"
And with that she takes off at a run, moving in a direction that she hopes will keep her out of the Rathlos's attention she makes for the back left leg once again, dodging, rolling and evading as necessary.
Once she reaches the leg, using both hands on the sword she will drive it into the largest wound and push it in and and pull it across with all her might to try and rip it across.
If she sees either head or tail she will dive, roll, and run to get herself out of harms way leaving the sword in the wound.

Totoro pulls out one of his swords and drives it straight into the webbing with both hands and pulled it down, hopefully cutting and tearing a decent amount of the webbing before pulling it out and stabbing it somewhere else and holding on tight.

Having one crag left, Edo took swift aim at the Rathalos' mouth inside, before firing the crag. If a fireball comes his way, he'll dive to the side.

@Star: Just to clarify, your lance is alright. After you left it in the Rathalos' left leg, it fell out next to his leg and hasn't moved since. The Rathalos has not stepped on it (yet).
Wells'/Rekee's lance was the one that got damaged and thrown over his (Rathalos') shoulder, which may or may not be usable (it's in one piece, to say the least).
Using one sword for concentrated power was something I would have suggested.
Unless I'm forgetting something, you still have your other sword.
-
"Yeah." David responded regarding his well being, already drawing his war sword. He slowly started back towards the fray, giving the potion time to take effect.
Cyra started her relatively long run back around to the Rathalos' left leg. Because of his position, she found it easiest, safest and stealthiest to run to that location from behind the buildings behind him.
Wells backed up a couple of paces and quickly switched his shield to his better arm, though now used both to support it.
The Rathalos launched another fireball, this time at Edo. It was on target enough to warrant evasive action, so Edo backed up and got out of the way.
The fireball struck the top edge of the building and exploded, damaging the structure and leaving burning residue all over the place.
After Edo was done evading, the Rathalos had closed its mouth, cutting off Edo's desired shot.
Totoro had to use his sword like a saw in order to tear down the Rathalos' wing.
After slicing close to a foot, not near any of the other rips, Totoro removed his sword and jammed it back in nearby.
Cyra arrived mostly behind the Azure wyvern, on the opposite side of the buildings behind him.

@Star: The reason I had you not yet attack was because I figured what the others did took less time, so I kind of held you back to their time, if that makes any sense.
Basically, keeping you from getting too far ahead.
That and a mild case of laziness and it being late in the night.
@Sunfish: Something I would suggest is trying to connect tears, and/or cut pieces out.
That and be mindful that you can only go so far down until you reach the edge of his wing.
@Blaster: You've been on the right track aiming for vulnerable points.
My concern is the left wing isn't really a valid target any more because Totoro is climbing around on it. Attacking the right wing would be wasteful. (You seem to have already figured these things out.)
Other weak points would be harder to hit at your location, considering your angle of attack and distance.
Not sure why I'm being so "charitable" with these hints and stuff. (That sounds really pompous of me.)
Locations: (The black bar would be random buildings. Travel through the bar (alleys between buildings, not really through buildings themselves) is possible.)

ooc: I was kinda hoping to fire the shot before the fireball came out. But, that will do.
Edo took careful aim at the Rathalos' neck, closer to it's head this time, still aiming at the lower part. If the mouth opens for a ifreball, he'll adjust his aim to fire inside the mouth.

ooc: @DB: Good to know about the lance, Thank you. Yep, I do realize I have both dual swords, but figured using just the one would be more effective. And you know best the timing of things so holding me back was fine to keep me in pace with the others.
Cyra was hoping that the Rathalos still had his attention else where.
She will make her way out from the buildings and make a bee line for that left leg and following her plan, using both hands on the sword she will ram it into the biggest wound pushing it in with all her might and then pull it across the leg as best she can with all of her strength.
It the tail or head come her way she will leave the sword stuck in the leg, grab her spear if she can safely and she will dive, duck, roll, and run until she is clear, she will head back behind the buildings she came out of if possible.

Totoro continued to tear down this time towards the previous tear he had made, before sticking the sword back somewhere else again.

@Blaster: I figured as much. The reason I had otherwise occur is that I figured the Rathalos beat you to the shot, and/or you didn't have enough time to accurately aim.
-
The Rathalos' started to beat his wings, which sent Totoro flying into the air when the wings lifted.
Like any feline, he quickly adjusted himself in mid air, setting himself up nicely for for a body-weight aerial attack, which he performed afterward.
Both blades of his sword went all the way through, though fortunately the whole sword didn't go through.
He didn't remove his sword, or do anything else besides get his footing, because of what happened next.
Cyra was still completely unnoticed by the Rathalos, though his tail still waved around threateningly.
She maneuvered through the tail, then jammed her sword into one of the preexisting large gashes with her built up momentum.
Her blade sank very deep, but that didn't stop it from being jerked out when the Rathalos jumped up in pain, letting out a tortured yelp. Raven's grip almost broke first, but the blade being pried out of the wound worsened what was already severe damage (and already severe before that). The blood drenching the blade was confirmation of damage done.
The huntress promptly retreated, basically kicking her lance ahead of herself as she got out from underneath the azure wyvern.
For whatever technical or mechanical reason, the Rathalos completely lost his balance. He fell over to his left side, and landed hard on the ground on his hip.
Because of his drastically injured leg (if not now crippled), all of the hunters could tell it would be a long time (relative) before he got back up.
Finally having a clear shot at the Rathalos' throat area (and relatively stationary to boot), Edo lined up his shot and let loose.
After the usual occurrence, a chunk of flesh was blown away and a bloody mark was left in its place.

ooc:
@Blaster: Just as forewarning, there is an increased chance that you might not have an open target (considering how I bet everyone is gonna rush the Rathalos).
I'm not saying don't be ready to shoot, I'm just giving you a heads up so there's no disappointment.

Edo had a smirk on his face has he set his gun and bow aside, taking off his helmet and armor, throwing them off the building, followed by throwing his sword and shield down. He then jumped down, grabbed his sword, then ran over to the los' throat. He jabbed his sword into the wound he made, running in down it's throat. (From the head to the body)

Re: Holgarde - Day One: Cleansing
ooc: @DB: I can imagine why. :-)
Cyra seeing the Rathalos down quickly wipes the blood off her dual sword on her already stained armor and resheaths it. She picks up her retrieved spear, very happy to have it back, and holds back a minute to see where all the other hunters are going to go before she moves in. She does not want to be in the way and cause more chaos or harm to anyone.
But she will move in without hesitation if need.

Totoro pulled his sword out and quickly ran up the neck and towards the head, aiming to stab his sword into one of the open eye sockets.

Chirozay moved in towards the fallen beast, it's left wing his primary target. He took care to avoid any contact with possibly flailing limbs, focusing his effort on the damaged wing.

Three Wells unsheathed his longsword and ran over to the tail. He stood where he won't be easily hit by the flailing appendage (probably somewhere near its base), and started hacking away.
