Andras, BizzarreCoyote and 17dragonboy's Collaboration RPG (Sign Up and Rules)
"Corydan City - URGENT
All of the arena monsters have been released into the city. Requesting immediate assistance and supplies.
Known monsters include: Azure Rathalos, Blue Yian Kut Ku, unknown number and types of alpha raptors, unknown number and types of pack raptors.
Statuses of local monster hunters are unknown."

This message came in from carrier pigeons yesterday. Assuming quick departure, it will have been four days since the message was sent out when you arrive at the city.
At this moment, who is responsible for the monsters' releases is unimportant. Your job is to neutralize the monsters. Other monster hunters from other nearby towns will be assisting you, presumably arriving on the same day at different ends of the city.
Once the threat has been neutralized, it is requested that you remain with the city to help it recover.
Pay will be dependent on what is accomplished, but will likely require time to be processed.
-
This is the sign up thread for the collaboration RPG that will be run by Andras, BizzarreCoyote, and myself.
Just for the record; Arena towns/cities aren't overly common. Probably less than ten percent of towns/cities have an arena.
At the beginning of this RPG, you will be arriving at different ends of the city after a two day caravan trip. Among the caravans will be supplies, people like medics and police, and monster hunters.
You will likely have another player character or two with you (we'll see how many people we get).
Some NPC lower rank monster hunters will remain with the caravan company, while you guys go about eliminating the monster threat.
Helping the city, as mentioned above, includes by is not limited to monster hunting or quests.
There will be monster hunting like you're all familiar with.
There will also be things that are a little less monster hunter oriented. Characters like ninjas, thieves, guild knights, bounty hunters, etc. have a place in this RPG. Feel free to deviate a little from just a straight up monster hunter.
(Certain "jobs" may require moderator discussion. For example, with guild knights, we will need to talk.)
That said, however, your character should have at least some monster hunting ability.
Your character should be around the ability of a "middle rank" hunter. Below things like 'Rath, 'Blos, Lagiagrus, Naruga.
If you have a character idea that you're unsure about, ask us about it and we'll try to tell you whether or not it would be good for this RPG. Again, characters should have at least some monster hunter in them.
If we think a character might not fit too well, we'll let you know.
Your character can be killed in this RPG. In the case that you are killed, you are allowed to make another character and rejoin. When exactly you rejoin may depend, but hopefully it would be soon.
This does not mean we are going to VICIOUSLY try to kill you. The effort in which we try to kill you will be proportional to the threat at hand. Some bum with a knife is unlikely to do you in. A common guild knight, who is trained in fighting, would warrant caution. A hunter who's ability is similar to your own, or another player, is something to potentially fear.
We will try to give you subtle hints as to how dangerous something is. You should be able to use your discretion, however, to do that.
If for some reason it comes down to it, players can kill one another.
We all have our different interpretations of the world of monster hunter. This is a list that should give you the general idea of what the world is like for this RPG, so that we're on the same page.
I partially lied when I said this is free form, but it is similar. We will be using some stats, only for the sake of reference, getting an idea of what a character is like, and comparing characters to each other.
Stats will not be used in rigid calculations.
There are seven stats. You have [12] build points to distribute among these stats. One point raises a stat by one level.
Each stat has five levels, from 0 to 4. A description of what each level for each stat is like is given.
However, generally the levels of stat are like such:
Strength: How physical strong your character is, and muscle size.
Some weapons are inherently more or less accurate than others.
There are some limitations to how these stats can be acquired, with the intent to keep things making sense.
-Defense and agility can only have a maximum sum of 5. This is to not have a massively heavy guy moving around like a ninja.
-If defense is N, strength must be at least N - (minus) 1. For example, if defense is 4, strength must be at least 3. This is like a strength requirement.
-Strength and agility can only have a maximum sum of 6. This is to not have a massively huge guy moving around like a ninja.
-If strength is N, health must be at least N/2 (round down). For example, if strength was 2, health must be at least 1. If strength... 3, health... 1.
This is because muscle would provide some resistance to bodily harm.
Weapons (and Some Armor Stuff)
For Felyne, follow the same character creation process.
AFTER you make your character, these changes will be made at the end (after you work out all the restrictions and what not).
Lastly, name your character. Your character should have a last name.
Back stories are fine too, if not preferred for character development purposes.
If we see something about your story we're not okay with (such as father killed Fatalis, you killed an army) we will say so and it will need to be corrected.
Having killed any of the monsters listed for equipment limitations ('Rath, 'Blos,, Naruga, etc.) or anything on par with such is not allowed. (We may make an exception, but don't count on it.)
No having soloed monsters, unless the monster in question was severely under classed (like a hunter in Gravios equipment to a Yian Kut Ku).
No having any involvement (fought, materials) from elder dragons (or things of similar caliber, like Akantor or Shan Gaoren). This is because of their extreme rareness.
Remember that in this RPG, you can be more than just a generic monster hunter. The "limitation" would be about a middle rank hunter.

We all have our different interpretations of the world of monster hunter. This is a list that should give you the general idea of what the world is like for this RPG, so that we're on the same page.
- Spoiler:
- There's no magic. Things that we would say are magic (potions, weapon elements) are implied to work through science.
Some things from in-game have been taken out though, like pitfall traps and farcasters.
The world is still being explored by land and sea.
The guild coordinates almost all monster hunting. The guild is present almost everywhere in the word. The guild also acts as the police (guild knights are policemen).
Blue suit guild knights are lower rank. Red suits are higher rank. Green is medical. Any other colors have not been decided (by the moderators).
Governments vary from place to place, such as monarchy, democracy, etc. etc. etc. The guild is kind of a world wide government, having more or less power in certain places.
Religion varies from place to place.
How "good" or "bad" the world is varies from place to place.
Elder dragons are EXTREMELY rare. There is probably only a single digit count of each of them, if they're not one of a kind (it's unknown). The big ones are likely one of a kind.
Sightings of the elder dragons are extremely rare as well. It's like a small historical event when it happens.
Hunters almost always work in teams. The only (safe) reason a hunter would go solo is if he's on a very easy job (even then, though).
Hunters are a very small part of the population. They make significantly above average pay, especially the higher rank ones.
Hunters often times get around from town to town by escorting caravans (getting paid to do so).
Wyverians are a very small part of the population. They can live for hundreds of years, but a thousand is when they're considered "old."
Most are about human height, but once they start to pass the century they start to shrink and wrinkle.
Giant Wyverians exist (like the one seen in MHFO), but they're extremely rare.
They generally have longer ears.
Felyne have equal rights to humans. They live about as long too.
There are significantly less Felyne monster hunters.
Felyne don't serve as "comrades" like they do in game. They would be hunters like humans, just Felyne.
Racism varies from place to place (and person to person).
Hunters need to register with a town/city before they can take quests from it. This is usually done somewhere in the gathering hall.
If they're going from town to town and happen to come back to a town, they'll need to re-register.
This helps the guild keep track of its hunters, for various purposes.
Hunters will usually have a guild card with their general information, with stamps from the town's they've been to.
HR (Hero/Hunter rank) is not done like it is in game.
How exactly it is done we're not really specifying. We'll generally refer to hunters as lower, medium, and higher rank, and then maybe extremely high rank.
Towns often times call on one another to lend each other hunters when needed, generally when a large monster has come their way.
Lower rank hunters are moved around less than higher ranking hunters.
You often times don't need to hunt multiple large monsters just to make one equipment set from it. Because they're large, they generally have enough materials.
Things like Japanese, African or Spanish do not exist. Those are real world things.
If you want to copy something like an African dish, that's fine, just don't refer to it as African. You could let us (the players) know that it's based off of something African though, out of character.
Old Wyverian is like Latin. Many of the current languages get their roots from this language. It's not really used any more, except for things like ceremony or naming weapons (if the smith likes to do that).
Lynian is a language of Felyne's. Human's could try to speak it, however many parts would be very difficult because of biological differences.
There are many other languages, just like there are in the real world.
All races usually have last names.
Armor spheres or improve sphere's don't exist.
- Spoiler:
- 0: Significantly below average (average being civilian).
1: Average, civilian level, if not slightly above.
2: Common professional, like a police officer to a gun.
3: Expert, a distinguished professional, probably the best locally, such as a state champion.
4: Uber, practically maximum of human potential, like an Olympic athlete. Still bound by realism, however.
Strength: How physical strong your character is, and muscle size.
- Spoiler:
- 0: Weak, scrawny, young teen.
1: Average adult male, possibly some working out involved.
2: Someone who's job requires a large amount of physical labor, such as a construction worker or maybe a boxer.
3: Body builder, stands out in a crowd, bulky.
4: Massive body builder, frighteningly big, very bulky.
Some weapons are inherently more or less accurate than others.
- Spoiler:
- 0: Not only is it as if your person has never picked up their weapon, but they're clumsy and their attacks would mostly be wild and almost not aimed at all.
1: As if you've never really used a weapon besides maybe on occasion.
2: Someone who has trained with their weapon, such as a common police officer with their firearm.
3: Could win competitions, spends a lot of time on practice.
4: High level accuracy is almost easy for this person, and only some things will get by.
- Spoiler:
- 0: Very frail and sensitive, crybaby. Things that aren't really even legitimate (falling hard, punch in the chest) might bring tears.
1: Normal human male, can work usually work through minor things, however actual injuries can be problematic.
2: Someone who's used to pain, such as a MMA fighter or contact sport athlete. Serious injuries (deep cuts, fractured/broken bones/joints) still are a problem however.
3: Mortal wounds are really the only thing that phase this person, but accumulated serious injuries can be a hindrance.
4: Probably doesn't even feel pain, you have to kill this person to stop them.
- Spoiler:
- 0: Clumsy, lethargic, slow, etc., much like an obese person.
1: Normal fit human, with maybe some conditioning.
2: Athlete, gymnast, martial artist.
3: Medal winning gymnast, highest level belt in martial arts.
4: Olympic level gymnast or martial artist.
- Spoiler:
- 0: Basically no armor, besides clothes.
1: Light. Protective monster hides, maybe some chain mail or a sparse amount of plates/shell.
2: Moderate. Considerably thicker amounts of hide, more plate/shell.
3: Moderately heavy. (Almost) Whole body is covered in harder/heavier material.
4: Heavy. Large amounts of harder/heavier material, bulky.
If you're unsure where a certain armor set would fit, feel free to ask.
A little leeway could be granted. For example, putting Shinobi armor as 0 or 1, or Barroth as 3 or 4.
- Spoiler:
- 0: Oblivious. Even some blatant things will get by.
1: Average. Most obvious things will be spotted.
2: Observant. Almost like actively searching all the time.
3: Hawk eyed (though with all senses). Not much gets by this person.
4: Practically everything there is to notice will be noticed.
- Spoiler:
- 0: Not very convincing. Could be seen through pretty easily.
1: Could probably pull something significant off with some before hand planning.
2: Similar to an actor, could improvise fairly well.
3: More so the case as above.
4: Can convince almost anyone of anything.
- Spoiler:
- If someone is going to wield (not just carry) a great sword, they should have at least 3 strength. This also applies to hammers, (gun)lance, hunting horn, and similarly sized weapons.
This applies to an "average" great sword, hammer, etc. Taking a lighter lance, hunting horn, etc. with less strength would be fine.
You can have multiple weapons, but you need to be able to feasibly carry them all. More than four short swords would be okay. Two hammers wouldn't really be okay.
If you're carrying several weapons on your person, your agility may be reduced some.
Custom equipment (armor and weapons) is fine. Keep it reasonable though.
You are allowed to take things made of things BELOW things like Rath', 'Blos, Lagiacrus, Naruga. If you are unsure if something would be allowed, ask. No rusted/ancient stuff either.
If you want to take something guild related, it is allowed, but we will need to talk. ("Guild Rapiers" or any variants don't need talking however.)
DO NOT expect to have new equipment made over the coarse of this RPG. The reason is that it would take several days for new equipment to be made. This RPG will be going by day by day, so it wouldn't really reach the time when the new equipment would be ready.
However, you can still go about having new equipment made for role playing purposes. Also, there is a possibility that this RPG may have a time skip or something, and the new equipment would have been made. I do not know, do not count on it.
Buying new pre-made equipment is plausible however.
- Spoiler:
- You are assumed to carry basic items like potions, food, whetstones, gun maintenance kits, etc. etc. You don't need to bother listing stuff like that for items.
Gunners should list their types of ammunition (limit yourself, don't just take everything).
Significant items, like flash bombs, rope, smoke bombs, should be listed however. This is because I don't want people suddenly pulling things out of their rear when it's convenient for them.
If you're unsure if something should or shouldn't be listed, just list it.
For minor things, like ammunition, you don't need to bother listing off how much you have.
Like weapons, should should be able to feasibly carry all of your items. If you really go overboard with items, your agility may suffer.
- Spoiler:
- Pitfall traps like in-game are not allowed, because they don't make sense (how the hell do they work?). You can still make a pitfall trap yourself, but you'll be doing it all manually, and it'll only be as effective as you make it.
Shock traps are allowed though. They're basically suped up tasers (see how they work for a better understanding). The monster needs to step on the disc directly though. The trap can be disengaged and reset if desired. A human will be affected much worse than just stunned if they step on it. The disc can be recharged back in the city, however it may need physical repair after being stepped on by a monster.
Status boosters, like demon drugs or energy drinks, will not be SUPER difference makers, but they will have some effect.
Flutes will not provide and status support, besides MAYBE as a distraction.
A paintball is like a flare. You set it off, and it burns slowly, emitting pink smoke that has a very noticeable smell. It's covered in sap plant so it sticks pretty well to monsters.
No farcasters.
For Felyne, follow the same character creation process.
AFTER you make your character, these changes will be made at the end (after you work out all the restrictions and what not).
- Spoiler:
- Strength will be reduced by 2. Health will be reduced by 2.
Agility will be increased by 1.
Negative stats are allowed.
Other advantages the Felyne will have are; heightened (but also more sensitive) hearing and smelling ability. Night vision. Stealth.
Their smaller size would make them slightly harder to hit (besides agility), but also have the disadvantage of things like not being able to reach things.
Felyne are presumed to use scaled down armor and weapons unless stated otherwise.
Lastly, name your character. Your character should have a last name.
Back stories are fine too, if not preferred for character development purposes.
If we see something about your story we're not okay with (such as father killed Fatalis, you killed an army) we will say so and it will need to be corrected.

Remember that in this RPG, you can be more than just a generic monster hunter. The "limitation" would be about a middle rank hunter.

this peeked my intrest, so im going to take a crack at it
Name: Rath Faux
Species: Wyvarian
Class: Guild hunter
Age:29
Back Story:
Born under strange conditions, even for a wyvarian, Rath was named after a mythic beast of the olden times, a Rugean Faux. Not knowing his heritage as a Wyvarian, he lived among the humans for a time before seeing his first guild hunter in his home village. The Hunter saw him, as he was a fairly high ranking hunter, he took Faux in as an apprentice and named him Rath, as to give him a more human name. As Rath lived with the hunter he began to go on hunts with his master and became enthralled with hunting.
As he grew older the hunter began taking him on more dangerous hunts, though not allowing Rath to fight close range. As his accuracy rose the hunter gave him stronger guns to hunt with, eventually giving him a gun passed on from generation to generation in the hunters family, and was supposedly made out of an unknown elder dragon. As Rath performed well in hunts, the guild took notice and admitted him as a guild hunter. Being a full fledged guild hunter Rath was allowed to go onto an elite squad of hunters that included his master. During the first quest the gun broke while firing a high level shot and hit on of his allies, who was then killed by the creature they were fighting. Disgraced by the occurance, Rath wouldn't go on hunts for 2 months, and had become very anti-social because of it.
His master eventually found an arena fight, and coerced Rath to go to it. As it was a medium Kut-Ku the two had no trouble, but during the fight his master's leg was severely injured. It was after the fight and the monster was slain that the hunter said to Rath that the Kut-Ku was his last hunt, and that it was time for Rath to do for someone what he had done for Rath. After making a very reliable gun and armor from the Kut-Ku, Rath is determined to do this quest succesfully to prove to his master what he is capable of.

Re: Andras, BizzarreCoyote and 17dragonboy's Collaboration RPG (Sign Up and Rules)
I made some edits, which were things I should have mentioned earlier.
-There is no magic. Most things from in game are implied to have scientific workings.
Things like FARCASTERS, and pitfall traps, however, have been taken on. Some other things may be as well.
-Certain jobs, specifically guild knights, may require some discussion with the moderators.
-Blue suit guild knights are lower rank. Red suit knights are higher rank. Green are medical. Other colors have not been decided (by the moderators).
-Please do not have any involvement with elder dragons in your back stories (materials, fighting, etc.). This includes things on par with elder dragons, like Akantor or Shen Gaoren. This is because of their extreme rarity.
-With very menial things like potions or ammunition, you don't need to bother listing how many you have.
-Wyverians generally have longer ears.
-Naruga Karuga/Nargacougrex was specifically added to the list of higher rank monsters not allowed (for clarity).
@Rageo: You're gonna hate me for this, but the parts about the Shen Gaoren and elder dragon gun will need editing.
The Naruga stuff (fighting him, equipment) will need editing too.
Your guy (and everyone else) would know you're a Wyverian.
There's nothing wrong with being a Wyverian. There's no reason to hide it.
Just so I know, about how old is your guy?
Being a guild knight is completely separate from being a monster hunter. A guild knight is basically a police officer. Your guy would have had to go out of his way to become a guild knight.
Being a guild knight has some powers (like those a police officer would have), but also some responsibility (doing the right thing, following orders, not abusing power). The could be repercussions if you don't take those responsibilities.
You'll probably be different than the usual knight, doing more your own thing (rather than patrols, paper work, etc.).

Re: Andras, BizzarreCoyote and 17dragonboy's Collaboration RPG (Sign Up and Rules)
My Character:
Name: Pixie MoonFlower
Race: Human
Physical Description: Female, 4'8", Petite, Long Blonde Hair, Bright Blue Eyes, Age 24
Strength: 1
Accuracy: 2
Health: 1
Agility: 2
Defense: 2
Notice: 2
Charisma: 2
Armor: Hermitaur
Weapons: Pink Maracas, Angel Parasol Bowgun
Ammo: Normal x 75 Pierce x 25
Items: Flute
Backstory: Growing up in a big family with 5 older brothers, Pixie had to get used to a lot of rough housing and verbal jabbing, hence she has developed a very fun loving and sassy sort of nature. She has more than her fair share of charm and works very well with people. In her desire to help everyone she can she has developed a great sense of compassion for others and always loves being with people, and is never one to shy away from hard work.
Her brothers started her training when she came of age and took her out with them on smaller monster hunts. Realizing that she was not the strongest hunter out there, she worked hard in her training and always tried her hardest to do her part. Finally she became good enough to take and pass her guild exam. While not an elite hunter by any standards, she is happy to be a part of the guild, knowing there will always be someway she can help out.

Re: Andras, BizzarreCoyote and 17dragonboy's Collaboration RPG (Sign Up and Rules)
You would need more strength to have the defense you currently have (2).
The rule is that strength must be at least (health minus 1).
So for 2 defense, you'd just need 1 strength.
So, you'll just need to bump up your strength, OR reduce your defense (and put the point somewhere else).
Just for the record (if you choose to just reduce your defense), Hermitaur armor probably isn't appropriate for 1 defense.

Another edit: Originally it was said that last names are preferred.
Now, they are borderline required. Your character really should have a last name, for identification purposes.
@Blaster: Your character is all set, save for the edit above.
You won't have any real hindrance from the multiple weapons you're carrying.

@Glyph: Acknowledged. It would've been a shame not to have you.
I was wondering where you'd gone. You kind of disappeared from the site and the chat.
Any word on Infection?
@Sunfish: Regarding your stats, is it correct for me to assume that what you posted DID NOT have the Felyne reductions (and addition) applied? As in the strength and health -2, agility +1.
In other words, that your stats now are on FELYNE standards, not HUMAN standards (which is what we will be going by).
Do you understand what I'm saying, and is it correct?

Re: Andras, BizzarreCoyote and 17dragonboy's Collaboration RPG (Sign Up and Rules)
Name: Sterling Peterson
Race: Human
Physical Description: 6'1", Shaved head, average build, 27
Strength: 1
Accuracy: 4
Health: 1
Agility: 4
Defense: 0
Notice: 2
Charisma: 0
Armor: Clothing and ammo storage
Weapon: Cephalos Light Bowgun
Items: Flashbombx3, Smoke bombx1, Demon Drugx5, Paintball/flarex2, Misc. stuff (Some ropes, potions, maintenance stuff, etc...)
Ammo: Normal (lv2), Pierce, Cluster, Crag, Pellet
Back Story: Sterling was born into wealth, his family being aristocrats. For the majority of his young life, he was raised on the finer points of life, learning to read and write, and how to attend parties and business meetings. Around the age of 13, he left his home to study abroad. After several months of study, Sterling dropped out of school, and was disowned by his parents. He soon found work doing errands and odd-jobs for anyone who needed work done, eventually saving enough money to begin as an entrance level hunter. Unfortunately, his addictive personality led him to become a drunkard, and he lost most of his possesions, and certainly all of his prestige.
If there's anything that needs changing, let me know. I'm not really sure about the weapons and armor stuff, it's been a long time since I've played the game. Also, I believe that a pitfall trap isn't particularly unreasonable. With enough time and effort, it would be possible to dig a small pit and then cover it up with leaves and stuff. I think that having a device that allows it to be set up almost instantly is a little ridiculous, but that's just for game dynamics. I'm not going to try and argue it though, just saying.

Re: Andras, BizzarreCoyote and 17dragonboy's Collaboration RPG (Sign Up and Rules)
Me and Glyph talked on mibbit, and he's all set now.
Just so everyone is aware, regarding pitfall traps:
Digging out a hole yourself and putting a net over, etc., is perfectly okay. It would take time and everything, but that's another issue.
It's the in-game machine that instantly makes a pitfall trap out of nowhere that's not okay.

Yeah, I thought I read to post the stats without the reductions first. I can quickly change that if you need me to.

I know we're waiting on Jeffman.
Semaj said he may or may not be able to join, due to busy-ness.
I'm not sure about anyone else.

Re: Andras, BizzarreCoyote and 17dragonboy's Collaboration RPG (Sign Up and Rules)
@Blaster: Sure.
@Everyone: Up until we start, feel free to make any edits.
Please let me know if you make any edits though.
Also, I should have said this earlier, you shouldn't count on getting new equipment over the coarse of this RPG.
The reason is that it would take several days to make new equipment. This RPG will be going by day by day, so it would never really reach the point where the new equipment would be made.
To those who are familiar with Maskata; days go by similarly. Hopefully not quite as slowly, unless desired, but we'll see.
HOWEVER, buying pre-made new equipment would be plausible.
For role playing's sake, you could begin having new equipment made anyway. There is a slight chance it might come into play for this RPG (as in you'd get to use the new equipment), like if there's a time skip or something. I do not know, so do not count on it.
I edited that into the first post.
Also, armor spheres and improve spheres don't exist.

Re: Andras, BizzarreCoyote and 17dragonboy's Collaboration RPG (Sign Up and Rules)
@Everyone: This RPG is probably going to be delayed a little bit.
Basically, I'd like to do a little more work before we get things started. Kind of adding on things.
Character creation will probably be different due to some changes I have in mind.
The delay may be for the better, considering Andras' absence.
However, for the sake of having something up, I may start another, much simpler, RPG. You'll see the new thread if and when I do this. Hopefully I get to it soon.
Sorry about this.
